Vasant Utsav Festival of Dance

The Saraswathi Educational Cultural and Charitable Trust has been conducting the Vasant Utsav Festival of Dance commencing on the 1st of May each year at Kapaleeswarar Temple, Mylapore, Chennai since 2004. The festival of dance is conducted for 10 days and showcases the various classical dance forms of India.

Over the years the festival has showcased performance by stalwarts such as Padma Vibhushan Sonal Mansingh and Padma Bhushan Dr. Padma Subramaniam, Chitra Vishveshwaran, Sudha Rani Ragupathy, Alarmel Valli and many more. During the festival awards are given to the renowned performing artists and Vedic scholars and the scholars of Shaiva Sidhanta for their contribution in preserving and promoting Indian Culture and ancient wisdom. This festival is one of the core cultural activities of the trust and is dedicated to the promotion of Vedic heritage and Indian culture and dance Heritage. Over the years the festival has gained international fame is considered an important cultural event of Chennai.

The festival is dedicated to the loving memory of the Late Smt. Indira Garyali the founder of the trust who was a great patron of art.

The Trust has also brought out a publication honouring The revival of Temple Dancing. The book also showcases the history of Vasant Utsav from its very inception in 2004 and the contribution of its Managing Trustee Dr. C K Gariyali and Padma Bhushan, Dr. Nagaswamy in revival of temple dancing.
