Navvarsh Mahotsav Festival of Dance at Bangalore 2017 to 2024
The Saraswathi Educational Cultural and Charitable Trust expanded it’s cultural activities to the city of Bengaluru in 2017 where it hosted a two - day dance festival in January every year as Nava Varsha Mahotsav – The New Year Mega Festival. The festival showcased Bengaluru’s best talent in the field of classical dance and honoured eminent Dance Gurus who have contributed to the promotion and preservation of classical Indian dance.
The festival held initially in the Temple of Ganesh in the suburb of Koramangala and later in National Gallery of Arts showcased, various dance forms such as Kathakali, Mohiniattam, Satttriya, Oddissi, Kathak and Bharatanatyam amongst other.
The festival was curated by Shri. Prabal Gupta, an acclaimed exponent of Kathakali and a great promoter of classical art and culture. Unfortunately he passed away in November 2023 at an age of 45. The last festival was celebrated in early 2024 in his memory. It was not possible to find a suitable and dedicated curator after him, hence, the festival is kept in abeyance for now.
